My Account FAQ*

  • What is a PIN, and how do I get one?
A PIN (Personal Identification Number) is password code of 4-8 numbers or letters (or a combination) that you choose. You will need to come to the Circulation Desk on the mid-level to get your PIN. We cannot give out PINs over the phone or through email. If you forget your PIN, you need to come back to the Circulation Desk to change it. The library staff cannot tell you what your PIN is - once in the system, it is encrypted and only displays as asterisks (****.)

  • What is my Patron / Alternate ID Number?
That is the barcode number that is on the back of your Groton Public Library card. Enter this number with no spaces.

  • How do I renew items?
Click on "My account" and log in by entering your barcode number and PIN and clicking on "Submit Request". You will then see your account information, including all of the items checked out to you and when they are due. You can renew an item (or multiple items) by checking the box to the left of the item and then clicking the "Renew Checked Items" button.

  • Why won't it let me renew these items?
You will not be able to renew items that are already overdue, on hold for another patron, or that you have already renewed twice.

  • How do I get on a waiting list for an item that is checked out?

  • The item that I want is available, can I ask for it to be held for me at the Circulation Desk?
You can get on a waiting list or have an available book held for you by placing a "Hold" on the item. You must be searching the catalog to do this, so do not log into your account first. If you are not already there, go to the catalog and find the item. When you find it, click on the underlined title and author (the line next to the check box - do not click in the box). This will take you to the full record. At the top of the screen will be a button that says "Hold Request". Click on this, then enter your library card number and PIN and click on "Submit Request". If you log in to your account, you will see any holds that you have placed.

  • So, if an item is available, I can place a hold on it and you will keep it for me at the Circulation Desk?
Yes, we will hold the book for three days before we re-shelve it. Please limit hold requests to three per day.

  • I am trying to save checked items to a list, but I keep getting an error message. What am I doing wrong?
You probably need to adjust the clock on your computer, so that it matches the clock on our computer system. Go to www.time.gov to get the accurate time.

Still have questions? Call or email the Reference Desk at 978-448-8000 or info@gpl.org, or stop by the desk on the upper level.
