Wondering what to do with your gently used books?
Here are some suggestions:
-
Popular paperbacks and recent magazines are often requested by U.S. military personnel overseas. You can make donations through Operation Paperback (www.operationpaperback.org) or Books for Soldiers (www.booksforsoldiers.com).
-
Books for Africa (www.booksforafrica.org) sends books to schools and libraries throughout Africa.
- Hands Across the Water (www.surplusbooksforcharity.org) distributes books to needy non-profit organizations overseas. You may donate in GROTON, at the Groton School (contact the school’s Building and Grounds Department secretary at 978-448-7541) or the school’s community service coordinator at (978-448-7698). The 40 foot container is located behind the office of the Groton School's Buildings and Grounds Department at the intersection of Peabody St. and Farmers Row (Rt. 111); it is about a mile from the town center--look for the COMMUNITY SERVICE sign. The container is open to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, or by special appointment during weekday business hours at the discretion of the school's Buildings and Grounds Department secretary (978-448-7541). They will accept books, textbooks, and videos. All items must be placed in closed boxes.
-
Got Books (www.GotBooks.com or 978-664-6555) works as a professional fundraiser for local charities and nonprofit groups. They have a pick-up service.
